RAF-IS Reverse Air Filter
• Highly combustible dust and
• High temperature applications

The RAF-IS dust collector is ideally suited for all coal (including PRB) filtration applications. It combines high performance, low energy use, and reliable and effective reverse-air cleaning in a ledgeless filter housing totally free of internal electrical components.

Operationally, it is the same as the RAF II, except that the cleaning system fan is located outside the housing. Additionally, it includes as standard a number of safety features. The key safety features of the RAF-IS are:

  • All electrical components are outside the filter housing eliminating any chance of a spark from motors, wiring, etc.
  • Simple, effective cleaning system continuously sweeps filter bag plate.
  • Cleaning system uses the filtered air, so no outside oxygen or moisture is introduced.
  • Bag cage grounding per latest NFPA 77 code.
  • Built-in deluge nozzles per latest NFPA 15 code.
  • Explosion venting per latest NFPA 68-2002 code.
  • Involute inlet is clad with replaceable anti-spark wear resistant plates. Involute design also creates a cyclonic effect that sweeps the hopper clean.
  • 60° (70° optional) hopper with flush mounted inspection door prevent dust accumulation.
  • Ledgeless design throughout.

Other Features and Benefits

Superior design allows high performance with low energy use

Energy Savings

Energy Efficient Cleaning System. The RAF-IS cleans the bags with a low pressure reverse air cleaning system that uses the filtered air to deliver a high volume of air to each bag. The bags are fully inflated, the dust cake is dislodged from the bag (without being fragmented and reentrained) with enough time to fall into the hopper. Because each bag is cleaned every two minutes, pressure drop remains low

Also, because previously heated or cooled plant air is used for cleaning, no additional energy is expended to heat or cool makeup air.

Efficient involute entry expends less overall energy than a conventional inlet. In addition, it causes heavier dust particles to drop out into the hopper, resulting in further energy savings.

Reduced Maintenance

The simple cleaning system, using a low horsepower motor, is very reliable, working day-in and day-out with little attention. Bags last longer because they receive no sudden blast as with pulse systems. There are no valves, dampers, or compressors to maintain.

Bag life is extended due to the cleaning system's low pressure, high volume air flow. Also, the cyclone effect induced by the involute inlet causes heavier particles to separate out, resulting in less wear on the bags.
